Laurel Republicans Send Largest Delegation to the 5th District Republican Party Convention, State Senator Jensen Re-Elected as District Chairman



Laurel County Republicans joined with Republicans from the 28 counties that make up the 5th Congressional District to elect a new District Chairman and Delegates from the district to attend the National Convention.

The Laurel County Delegation sent the largest group of delegates from any county in the 5th Congressional District with 26 members attending the convention at the Corbin Technology Center on Saturday, April 5th, 2008.

Several delegates also served on committees and appointed positions at the convention: Jackie Steele - Vice Chair to the Convention, Casey Taylor - Asst. Secretary to the Convention, J.L. Albright - Committee on Permanent Organization, Dean Johnson - Credentials Committee, Joe Caldwell - Resolutions Committee, Joyce Parker - Nominations Committee, and Bryan Mills - Sgt. at Arms.

The most prestigious moment was the nomination and election of State Senator Tom Jensen to continue serving as the 5th Congressional District Republican Party Chairman.

Delegates from Laurel County will next be attending the Statewide Republican Party Convention in Bowling Green, Kentucky on June 7th, 2008.

Laurel County Republican Party Elects New Committee and Bryan Mills as Chairman

Every four years the grassroots members of Republican Party of Kentucky meet to re-elect their County Republican Party Leaders.

Laurel County Republicans met on Saturday at the Laurel County District Court Room to elect a new Laurel County Republican Party Chairman and Officers.

The following individuals were elected to lead the Laurel County Republican Party over the next four years: Bryan Mills, Chair; Debbie Harville, Vice Chair; Jason Handy, Treasurer; Cassandra Taylor, Secretary; and Kyle Gray, Youth Chair.

Also at the meeting an Executive Committee was formed to oversee official Laurel County Republican Party business. This committee includes the five individuals listed above along with the following: Tom Jensen, State Senator, Dean Johnson, Laurel County Clerk; Joyce Parker, Property Value Administrator; Jack Sizemore, Jailer; Albert Robinson, former state senator; Jodi Albright, Assistant County Attorney; Jackie Steele, Assistant Commonwealth Attorney; Lorine Brock, Laurel County Election Board Member; Karen Wyan, Laurel County Republican Women’s Forum Chair; John Brock, member at large; Jackie Mills, member at large; Carolyn Smith, member at large; and Don McFadden, member at large.

Also, the Laurel County Republican Party selected delegates to attend the Kentucky 5th Congressional District Republican Party Convention which in turn selects delegates to the State and National Republican Party Conventions. The District Convention will be held Saturday, April 5 at the Corbin Technology Center at 10 a.m.
